Can I claim from my private health fund? Unfortunately you won't be able to claim from your health fund, though I am a registered and qualified massage therapist. Can I get a massage if I am pregnant? You can receive a massage at any time during pregnancy with dew care being taken at all times during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester but always consult your doctor with any concerns and discuss with your massage therapist with any complications and concerns you may have. Why do I sometimes get a headache after a massage? Massage affects vascular circulation which for some could give a slight headache and feel a bit queasy. Also being face down can put pressure on the sinus cavity causing discomfort. Anytime you feel too congested or excess discomfort, turn your head to the side to help you breathe. Communicate with your therapist of your discomfort. What should I do if I get ticklish during a massage? Communicate with your therapist. They will adjust their touch/technique to help diminish the sensation. What is the difference between a massage for relaxation and a sport massage? Relaxation massage tends to be more superficial, non-specific, connective and flowing. Sport massage is vigorous involving the use of multiple modalities, which could include relaxing Swedish type massage techniques. Sports massage is more stimulating and at times needs to match the intensity of the athlete. It can be sport specific and should be added as part of an athlete's regular training schedule. Can there be too much pressure? Yes, there can be too much pressure. It can be intense at times but it should never be painful. A painful massage is counter productive. Is it normal to bruise once in a while after a session? Not from a relaxation or sport maintenance massage but some treatments consisting of certain deeper techniques may occur in minor bruising. Do I need to wear underwear? Underwear is preferred for a professional respect towards the therapist. Communicate prior to determine what you should wear. A professional knowledgeable sports massage therapist can work through clothing or sheets and still be effective. Is it ok for me to fall asleep through a massage? Yes, it's a sign of trust in your therapist. It's a great
compliment letting yourself totally relax. |
